Complacency is among the most dangerous enemies of the believer because it is so easy to fall into and very difficult to detect in our own lives before we are rudely awakened.

What does love require of me? This clarifying, but terrifying question should stand guard over our consciences. It’s so simple. But it’s so inescapably demanding.

Quit playing games! Quit pretending. Quit rationalizing! Face up to what you know you ought to do! Ask the question and embrace the answer!

Sometimes an option we’re considering creates a little tension inside of us. That internal hesitation, that red flag, is often God’s way of turning us in another direction.

Every decision you make becomes part of the story of your life. The decisions that led to your greatest regrets could have been avoided if you had paused to ask yourself, “What story do I want to tell?”

Our hearts are deceitful. They can be dangerous. We don’t merely lie to ourselves; we deceive ourselves. But there is a way to keep our deceitful hearts in check.
