Recognizing God’s Provision

by Andi Hale

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

Recognizing God’s provision for us is a habit. We may say “We can’t afford it.” but that is one of the Devil’s worst lies. It’s as if we believe our heavenly Father has cut us off without a penny! Yet He will reach to the last grain of sand and the remotest star to bless us if we will only obey Him.

Does it really matter that our circumstances are difficult? Why shouldn’t they be! If we give way to self-pity and indulge in the luxury of misery, we remove God’s riches from our lives and hinder others from entering into His provision. No sin is worse than the sin of self-pity, because it removes God from the throne of our lives, replacing Him with our own self-interests.

Oswald Chambers

He will take everything we have until we learn that He is our Source. If we don’t exhibit majesty and grace, God will hold us responsible.

And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

2 Corinthians 9:8

God always provides for his children, even if it’s not in the way we expect or hope. The challenge is for us to see his provision and care, even when it is different than we expect.

God is always doing 10,000 things in your life, but you may be aware of three of them.

John Piper

God May Provide Differently

God provided supernaturally for his people when they were wandering the desert. If God could provide for many thousands of Israelites in the middle of a desert, he can surely provide for you and your family’s needs. Ask God to provide for you in whatever way he deems fit. Don’t grumble against God’s supernatural, unexpected ways.

give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

God Provides Himself

Scripture tells us to make the pursuit of God the primary function of our lives. God graciously guides us into a greater realization that our ultimate need is for more of his word, more of his ways—more of him.

Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37:4

God’s Provides the Gospel

When we trust in Christ, we have decisively secured for us every ultimately good thing from him. It’s just a matter of time. Every truly good thing in our lives comes straight from the Father. The ultimate good he provided us, through whom much of the other good things come to us, is Jesus. Jesus is the ultimate treasure.

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

James 1:7

God Provides Eternity

God does not always provide and care for us in ways we might expect in this life. The Bible does not promise this. This life is fleeting. This life is fragile. This life is but a vapor’s breath. The next life, the age to come, is where all God’s provision and care for us will ultimately make sense and come together as a whole.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

1 Peter 2:9

Our hearts ache under the pressures of this life, but it is only because we were made for another world. We are sojourners and aliens on this earth.

Count on God for provision. God goes before us in every area of life. Nothing that happens to us will ever surprise God.

We must be careful to stay away from “what if.” There are no “what ifs” when we choose to trust God for every need. God is at work around us, meeting needs we are not even yet aware of. Even as we pray, God’s answer is on the way.

“I will provide their needs before they ask. I will help them while they are still asking for help.”

Isaiah 65:24
