(MORRILL, Neb.) — The Village of Morrill took time to once again show recognition to the amazing lineworkers serving our area with this excellent in-action photo.
When storms hit or disaster strikes and the power goes out, they are the first responders, regardless of time or day. They put in countless hours maintaining the power lines that power our lives!
April 18th is Lineworker Appreciation Day, a time to honor the employees who do this vital work. The Village of Morrill has 2 Journeymen Linemen and 1 apprentice who do a dangerous job. And they sometimes do that job under the most extreme conditions – blazing heat, pouring rain, high winds and also frigid winter storms.
Take the time and join us in thanking lineworkers for all they do!
(MORRILL COUNTY, Neb.) — The original scanner call came in after midnight stating that a concerned mother was tracking her son walking on Hwy 385 near mm 100 via gps after the car he and his friend were in became high centered. She lost their signal and called in for assistance.
Troopers responded and were not able to locate the individuals at first.
That’s when the Nebraska State Patrol and the Morrill County Sheriff stepped up their game plan and called in additional resources.
The search lasted through the early morning hours, and finally, the subjects were found after hours of searching.
Early this morning, Sergeant Lassen responded to a call for a drone deployment to assist the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office in locating two missing individuals.
Despite challenges like difficult terrain, Sergeant Lassen skillfully deployed a thermal drone, locating the subjects who had become lost after their vehicle got stuck.
Sergeant Lassen’s quick thinking and expertise, the subjects were found, and a potential crisis averted.
👏 Kudos to Sergeant Lassen and the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication to public safety!
We have upgraded the previous winter headlines to a Winter Weather Advisory beginning this evening, and continuing through early Sunday Morning.
Snowfall accumulations where there are no winter headlines currently present are still possible. Also, there is the potential for localized heavy snow bands to remain over the I-80 Corridor in the southern Nebraska Panhandle for long periods of time, which could easily cause snow accumulations to exceed 6″.
Stay tuned to forecast updates as changes to the winter headlines, and expansion to other areas remain possible. For your local forecast, go to: weather.gov/cys
A tricky weather forecast with this next storm system. Heavy snow is possible tonight through Saturday in the watched area.
We expanded the watch to include Banner, Cheyenne and Morrill Counties in the Nebraska Panhandle. Due to inconsistent model guidance run to run consistency, we’ve held off on upgrading to a warning for now to let our day crew take one more look at the next model run. Looking at snow amounts of 4-8 inches for communities in the watched areas. Lesser amounts (1-3 inches) further north and west of these watched areas.
