Cancel Culture, week 2
For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.Colossians 1:9-14
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevailMatthew 16:18 (ESV)
Requests for a Prevailing Church
Priorities: “filled with the knowledge of His will”
God’s will is God’s purpose and God’s plan. He want’s lost people to be saved and He has a purpose and a plan for the church as a whole and for your life individually.
Purity: “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord”
Paul was confronting both the legalists and the liberalists. We don’t need more rules, but we also want to walk worthy according to His word.
Production: “bear fruit in every good work”
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.Ephesians 2:10
God has some good works for you to do. He has already prepared them for you to do. You were not saved to sit, you were saved to serve. Pray that you will be productive for the kingdom of God.
Power: “strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might”
The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is resident in each and every believer!
Reminders to a Prevailing Church
- a. God has qualified us. Qualified means “to meet a standard”. We are not able to meet Go’s standard on our own. Christ met this standard for us!
- b. God has rescued us. Only those in danger understand they need rescued. We were in absolute danger and Jesus came to rescue you. Some of you have no idea that you are in danger. There’s a hurricane of God’s judgement just of your coast.
- c. God has transferred us to His Kingdom. Transfer here was used by the Roman army. They would transfer, physically move, the enemy army along with their family to a whole new environment instead of slaughtering them all. Christ has moved us into His glorious kingdom!
- d. God has redeemed us. Redemption: “to buy, to pay a price”. He paid for our sins with his perfect Son so we could receive the forgiveness of sins!
