What Do We Believe About Jesus from First Baptist Church, W.F. on Vimeo.
About 52% of all people believe Jesus was just a good teacher. Only 66% of professed Evangelical Christians believe that Jesus is God. What that really means that 1/3 of ‘Evangelical Christians’ just aren’t Christian.
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him.
He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
And although you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, yet He has now reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach— if indeed you continue in the faith firmly established and steadfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel that you have heard, which was proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, was made a minister.
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions.
Colossians 1:13-24
4 Absolute Truths About Jesus
1. Jesus is Savior.
None of us measure up, but the Good News is that He qualified us, He redeemed us! There is ONLY one Savior, and His name is Jesus!
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been
Acts 4:12 (NASB)
given among men by which we must be saved.
2. Jesus is God the Son.
There is one God that reveals Himself in 3 persons, the Father, the Son and the Spirit. He is the visible representation of the invisible God.
He who has seen Me has seen the Father;
John 14:9 (NASB)
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Hebrews 1:3 (NIV)
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
Philippians 2:5-7 (NASB)
Jesus came to be a man, but He did not give being God to be a man. God is everywhere, but Jesus emptied Himself of His omnipresence when He became human.
3. Jesus is Supreme.
Jesus is the first above all creation. In new testament times, the first born got all the privileges and perks. Jesus claimed for himself all authority.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
John 1:1-3 (NASB)
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only
John 1:14 (NASB)
begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
No one has ever seen God. The One and Only Son— the One who is at the Father’s side— He has revealed Him.
John 1:18 (HCSB)
Jesus is supreme over creation and he is supreme over satan. Satan is not co-eternal with God. He is a created being, an angel, who rebelled against God. He has been defeated! The only authority satan has is what you yield to him when you surrender to temptation and you believe his lies. Satan is a liar! What he says to you are lies and when you believe his lies you give him authority in your life. But when you choose to believe and proclaim the truth of the Word of God, you speak the authority of Jesus over him.
Jesus has taken the sting of death away. For those who trust in Jesus, death is just a doorway to eternity.
And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 1:22-23 (NASB)
4. Jesus is All-Sufficient.
Fullness in vs 19 is the Greek word Pleroma, it means the sum total of all divine attributes. It means everything that you need, Jesus is.
Jesus is enough! Add anything to Jesus, you take away from Him.
It always comes back to the cross! He went to the cross, died a death that He didn’t deserve to pay a bill He didn’t run up so that you can be forgiven and set free. It always comes back to the simplicity of the cross.
