Four Riders (The Book of Signs, Ch. 18)

In this section, we arrive at the climax of the story – the time known as the Tribulation. The Four Riders are the first of nine Tribulation signs.

There are many people who don’t understand the judgement of God. Nor the righteous anger of God. Such people rightly believe that God is love, but they can’t comprehend how a loving God could punish people for their sin – how a loving God could be filled with both wrath and compassion at the same time.

There are many prophecies in the Bible that reveal a future judgement against this world and the people in it. God gives us prophecies, even dark ones, for our own benefit. They serve as a warning, alerting us to traumatic events coming in the future that we can either prepare for or avoid by following God’s directives and depending on His providence.

In Revelation 6, the first four seals are broken summoning the four riders:

• Rider on a White Horse (the tyrant)
• Rider on a Red Horse (war)
• Rider on a Black Horse (hunger)
• Rider on a Pale Horse (disease)

The most important question is “How will we respond to the reality of the Tribulation?” It is real and it is coming. So what will we do about it?

• The Response of Praise
• The Response of Passion
• The Response of Personal Evaluation

Through prophecy, God has made the darkness of the world’s approaching doom clear to us. When the Tribulation arrives and God’s people are taken into heaven, the door will close on those who have heard and rejected the gospel.
