Musk Expanding Twitter

According to Tech Dad, Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is preparing to introduce video and audio call features in response to growing competition from Meta Platforms-owned Threads.

The platform’s owner, Elon Musk, aims to create an encompassing “everything app” to maintain a competitive edge. These forthcoming features will be accessible on Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, and personal computers, and users won’t require a phone number for access, according to Musk’s recent post on X.

While a specific launch date was not provided, this move aligns with Musk’s strategy of transforming X into a comprehensive super app offering services ranging from messaging and social networking to peer-to-peer payments.

This transformation echoes Tencent’s WeChat app, which has become an integral part of daily life in China. Musk, who remains involved in product development at X, is also pursuing changes to how news links appear on the platform, a decision that could potentially impact the visibility of news publishers.
