(FORT WORTH, Tex.) — The Annual National Storm Chaser’s Summit was held in Fort Worth, Texas this weekend and had a lot of familiar faces to us here at the scanner.
The first greeting of the day came from Storm Chaser Adam Lucio, who found the perfect spot for a quick hello!

Meet Brandon Montgomery – Photographer of the Year 2024
“Happy National Weatherperson’s Day”!
I spent some of it relaxing a little on this nice weather day just outside of Wichita Falls, Texas!
It’s an unbelievable honor and accomplishment to be voted into and awarded a “Vortex Award” for the 2nd year in a row!!!!🌪🏆
There were several categories and awesome winners of this award, but the “Storm Chaser Photographer of The Year” award is the last one presented and I guess could be considered the most prestigious of the Vortex Awards.
There’s been a lot of effort put into getting here in life.
Pretty much anyone with enough passion and persistence can get to this point, and in my opinion there are plenty of other great photographers that were eligible for such an award! 📸
I do want to clarify some things, though.
(Can he do it in one sentence?) – editor
It’s not a very glamorous lifestyle most of the time, there are many long days, miles driven, sleepless nights, the challenge of avoiding deer and other wildlife “and sometimes people” on the road, bad diet “though that can be improved with enough drive to do so”, very little time with family and pets, inability to start loving someone or have love or a healthy relationship because I must be out on the road almost constantly, lack of time to even spend with other chasers and friends on the road because you can’t always have the luxury of staying in a hotel or a house “even if they pay for it and insist you stay” because it puts you out of position for the possibility of a perfect sunrise in the morning, car maintenance and issues, financial struggles and irritation from a lack of buying interest for my work, the burden of staying on Facebook constantly and trying to interact with fans somewhat to prove that I care and that without them I wouldn’t be here, the pressure to become more active on the numerous other social media platforms, lack of internet service in many areas and the resulting inability to provide content within a reasonable time frame, wanting and needing to expand into other forms of content creation such as live streaming and making media sales while continuing to stay on top with my photography abilities, the fear and sometimes unavoidable possibility of becoming cast out by some friends, saying the wrong thing on a social media post, being put under a spotlight because of drama that either I could cause whether it be accidental or on purpose or something that someone else could make up, obtaining and being careful with all of my cameras and photography gear, being particularly careful not to get injured and become stranded on the occasionally required solo hikes in the middle of nowhere without cell service, being and appearing professional enough to be taken seriously and work my way into the big leagues but yet being goofy and crazy and making posts about it because I want to help make people laugh and be somewhat real and transparent and simply because this lifestyle brings it out and it helps you cope with what you miss in life, and last but not least….. mother nature has to cooperate to an extent and you must do your best to put yourself in all the right spots to capture her cooperating.
Many of the scenes you have seen weren’t just happened upon!
These things need to be strongly realized and considered before making the decision to commit to doing what I am doing.
It is not always easy at all!!
Ai technology will never be implemented into my work “other than ai denoise which is wonderful and essential for removing annoying grain aka “noise” in photos.
So that means everything you see is real!
All those elements are actually there and it takes patience and persistence to photograph that!!!!!
Is it edited??…. Yes!
If you know anything about manual photography and raw files, you know that nearly every image basically requires at least some lightroom editing to take down highlights, recover some shadows, bring some saturation and clarity to at least the defining subject matter, etc, and if you didn’t know, you know now!
Don’t fall for these fake so called photographers out there that are growing by the day!!
Their posts are taking away from my posts and also resulting in much less revenue for me!
Thank you all for your continued support and making it possible to be where I am at today!!!
Getting to know and even become friends with some photography and storm chasing icons has been a dream come true!!
Being involved with Team Dominator and everyone that’s there is an honor and probably a position that some others have deserved much more than I.
There are plenty of times that I just can’t take in what has been accomplished and where I am standing in life!
I also firmly believe that there are more accomplishments to be had if I continue this amazing journey, even though I come across plenty of low times and have those doubts from time to time!
It just simply doesn’t seem real, and it especially hits me in some of those quite moments alone in nature!
Again, thank you all for your support!!
