UPDATE on Draven Haynes 6/12/24
A continuance was granted for the pretrial hearing for Draven Haynes for the beating and death of his baby son Carson.
New hearing is set for August 26. The court will accept into evidence the report of findings for his competency to stand trial.
In other Draven Haynes news: Draven is facing additional charges. He punched a fellow inmate and is facing a Class 3A Felony for that. Court records indicate he and his punching bag have known each other for 5-6 years. The fight? Probably over more, but triggered by a spat over a game of Monopoly.
From court records (other names removed):
Draven landed on a property that K. owned and Draven wasn’t going to pay him. K. asked Draven why not, and Draven told K. that he gave him a pass when he landed on his property. K. rolled the dice and said something back to Draven. Draven punched K. on his right eye. After the fight, they went back to playing their game.
After Draven punched the guy in the right eye twice, knocking his glasses off his face, they resumed their game of Monopoly.
Pretrial for the new charge of assault is set for August 12 at 10:30 am.
Further: the State of Nebraska is dismissing termination motion for Jasmine Hopkins, mother of Carson Haynes. Health and Human Services is removed from the case. Jasmine will be allowed to make end of life decisions with consultation with Carson’s doctors.
Jasmine is granted a one week furlough from jail with her grandma to go to Omaha for the purpose of being present at Children’s Hospital to consent to the removal of life support for Carson.
********

(LEXINGTON, Neb.) — The Dawson County Court in Lexington finds by clear and convincing evidence that 23-year-old Draven Haynes neglected and/or refused to give his now almost 3-month-old son, Carson Haynes, protective care and further, subjected the baby to aggravated circumstances and chronic abuse.
Draven Haynes’ parental rights were terminated by Judge Wightman on Tuesday. Draven was asked if he understood his rights and if he understood the consequences of a plea of no contest. Draven agreed he understood and that he had the opportunity to discuss options with his lawyer, Mr. Mitchell. Draven entered the plea of “no contest” on custody and on termination.
The affidavit by Elizabeth Waterman as entered to initially remove the children from Draven and Jasmine Hopkins was used as evidence to maintain a factual basis by the state to adjudicate Carson, and to further terminate Draven’s parental rights.
There was no objection.
