Officials Caution Drone Use

(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — On May 16th, Scottsbluff Fire, along with Scottsbluff PD, were dispatched to a one vehicle accident involving a utility pole.

While on scene, we observed a drone flying over the incident during the time NPPD was doing aerial operations with their trucks to stabilize the pole and utility lines. While we understand drones are very useful tools and fun to use, the operator must understand the responsibilities that come with operating one.

Flying your drone in or near an emergency scene without the permission of the Incident Commander could delay certain operations from taking place that could impact the outcome of the incident.

Additionally, if you’re caught interfering with a scene, you could be fined by the FAA and potentially face criminal charges.

If you’re a newer pilot of a drone and unsure of the regulations that apply to you, please visit the FAA’s website at https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started for more information.

  1. It was actually Scottsbluff Fire that made the post and not the police. It should be titled “Scottsbluff Fire Caution Drone Use”
