York Fatality Accident

(YORK, Neb.) — First responders were sent to the crash in the parking lot of McDonald’s near Highway 81 and McGowan Street around 7:55 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle exited the I-80 westbound ramp and continued west across the four Highway 81 lanes of traffic before rolling multiple times and coming to a stop in the McDonald’s parking lot.

When officers arrived, they found the overturned vehicle with two people inside.  A community member helped officers rescue two people from the upside-down car.

Officers tried to save the life of the driver, 75-year-old Darrel Lottes of York, who was then transported to York General Hospital.  He later died from his injuries, according to police.

The passenger, 71-year-old Linda Lottes, was also taken to the hospital.  The extent of her injuries is unknown.

An investigation by Nebraska State Patrol and the York Police Department is ongoing.
