House Fire Averted

(SIDNEY, Neb.) — During Fire Safety Week, we again remind everyone to please think Safety First. The case of a pizza box left on the stove could have turned tragic for a Sidney family in this story from 987 The Big Boy / News Channel Nebraska.

Firefighters and EMS crews responded to a report of smoke coming from the attic of a home in the 2600 block of Laredo Lane Monday, October 6th.

The 2:56 p.m. call resulted in firefighters finding a stove fire. According to Fire Chief Matt Butts, it is believed a dog got on the stove and accidentally turned on a burner which then ignited a pizza box.

Chief Butts said damage was limited to the kitchen. No one was home at the time of the fire.
