(ELM CREEK, Neb.) — An investigation into an Elm Creek daycare is still not concluded, leaving parents disappointed in the system. The daycare in question is still running after the death of an infant. Here’s the updated story by Midwest Media by Melanie.

The unthinkable. Burying a child. It’s a pain you cannot imagine until you are a member of “the club no one wants to belong to”, as a parent living beyond your child’s lifetime.
In Elm Creek, Nebraska, a mommy and daddy must live out their days, carrying on in a world, that will never be the same again. They must work, and live, and go on for their other children.
Nathan and Brittany Findley, along with daughter Kira, and son, Kaisyn, must live with the questions of how their 13-week old Abigail went from healthy infant to organ donor.
Family says their baby was a healthy, loved, 13-week-old baby girl who died after being in the care of Dawna Cash at her in-home daycare in Kearney.
On June 3, 2025, emergency services were called because Abigail was unresponsive. She was rushed to CHI Good Samaritan, where her mom was working, and then flown to Children’s Hospital in Omaha.
It is reported doctors and law condidered the injuries that caused Abigail to die were criminal in nature.
Abigail’s death was not in vain insomuch as her organs saved the lives of two other babies.
But questions remain.
A search warrant was issued on Cash on June 10, 2025. The affidavit in support of the warrant is sealed, but a iPhone 17, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPad, PlayStation, computer tower, baby monitor, Dell laptop, and Acer laptop were taken to the Kearney PD forensic lab.
The documents list the reason for sealing the affidavit as an ongoing investigation, noting that release of the information would compromise the ongoing investigation.
Since June 25, after the search warrant case closed, no further information has been publicly available concerning an investigation. Family says the daycare continues to operate, and the family is forced to wonder.
Often cases such as this take a long time to solve. But will it ever be solved? Will Abigail’s family ever have answers?

Abigail Rose Marie Findley, three months old of Elm Creek, passed away June 10, 2025, at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. Then she bravely donated her organs for others June 14th.

Abigail was born March 5, 2025, in Kearney, to Nathan and Brittany Findley.
Abigail is survived by her parents, Nathan and Brittany Findley; sister, Kira Findley; brother, Kaisyn Findley all of Elm Creek, Neb.; maternal grandfather, Larry Trobough of Grand Island, Neb.; uncles, Ryan and Carrie Findley of Kearney, Neb., Tobias and Trista Main of Doniphan, Neb., Justin Trobough of Texas City, Texas; cousins, Carter Findley, Declan Findley, Hazel Findley, and Charlotte “Charli” Main.
Abigail was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, David Findley; and maternal grandmother, Gail Trobough.
