Colorado Simmental Breeder Chad Cook

Let’s listen in. 

Tell us a little bit about how you got started in the Simmental business. 

My parents started with the Simmental cattle in the late 60s, when they first come to North America. And at that time, my dad was at the bull farm at CSU, Colorado State University. And he ran that bull farm for, like, seven years. And, of course, I was a baby then. And so he collected some of the first Simmental bulls that come into the country. He kind of fell in love with cattle. And him and my mother bred their first cows to Simmental bulls in the 69, 70, in that range, and then joined the association, like, in 72. So we’ve been in the cattle business, especially the Simmental business, pretty much since the inception.  

And I know you have a sale coming up Monday. How do you run your sale?

We go on two platforms. We use DV Auction and Superior. It is a video auction, but it is live. We have display pins right outside the barn. And the sale facility is inside the sale barn. And the bulls are right outside on display. And it works really well for, you know, people that want to come lay eyes on the bulls, and then come in and eat lunch, and sit and watch the sale, and bid and buy that way. They can go on Superior or DV and purchase also. Chad Cook of Bridal Bit Simmentals.
