Welcome to the Harvest USA Report. I’m Brian Hale.

An original production of Howard Hale Broadcasting now expanded throughout North America. Let’s take a look at where some of those harvest crews are able to find some work. New Miller Harvesting was in Colorado.

The employees got to experience the Rockies when they were there. American Harvesting is in Draper, South Dakota. Good yields and dry conditions.

Exactly what they’ve been looking for all year. They said they’re really rolling through the acres. Zeller Harvesting posted some historic photos.

Matthew’s grandpa began custom silage harvesting in the 1980s. Matthew wasn’t very old when he joined in and he hasn’t stopped since. You can see his grandpa standing in front of the swather with Matthew in the cab in a photo on our Harvest USA Facebook page.

They wrote, before grandpa died, when we would walk in the house he would say, woo-wee, just because he was glad we were here. Before it got too difficult for him to travel, he and grandpa would come find us just to reminisce. We miss his enthusiasm and the excitement we’ve seen in his eyes to see another generation operating.

If he were here to see these kids this year, we know we would hear a big woo-wee. That’s from Zeller Harvesting. Hale Harvesting LLC is running in stripper straw, wheat that has been harvested with a stripper header, which strips the grain from the stalk and leaves the standing.

Some farmers leave the stalk standing to help prevent erosion and shade the ground, reducing moisture loss. In areas where erosion and moisture conservation aren’t major concerns, farmers will often sell their wheat straw as a separate crop. It’s swathed and baled and then trucked to an end-user.
