(OMAHA, Neb.) — A Mexican man was taken into federal custody on July 21, 2026 after agents executed search warrants at his home and business. Jose Gerardo Ruiz Alonso, 36, of Mexico, was found in posession of multiple firearms, amunition and a large sum of cash.
Court documents said the FBI began looking into Alonso in September of 2025 after First National Bank of Omaha flagged suspicious activity in an account belonging to Manuelitools LLC, which is a business owned by Alonso.
Someone informed the FBI that Alonso was illegally in the U.S. and involved in gun trafficking. Authorities found that Alonso entered the country on a tourist visa in 2012 and overstayed that visa and was subject to removal.
During his arrest, Alonso admitted he was in the United States illegally and knew he was prohibited from possessing firearms. He told investigators he obtained many of the weapons through private parking lot transactions at gun shows and markets, where buyers were not required to present identification. According to court documents, Alonso also said he had acquired firearms on behalf of a family member who was legally permitted to purchase them.

Yesterday, a case worked by Omaha’s Homeland Security Task Force and Violent Crime Task Force resulted in the arrest of Jose Gerardo Ruiz Alonso for possession of a firearm and/or ammunition by a prohibited person. The task forces include our partners at HSI, ATF, DEA, USMS, IRS-CI, and the USAO District of Nebraska, as well as other federal, state and local agencies.
During the execution of search warrants, the case team seized more than 70 firearms and over $40,000 in US currency. Under Summer Heat 2.0, the FBI has launched a multi-pronged offensive to crush violent crime. By surging resources alongside our partners, executing federal warrants on violent criminals and fugitives, and dismantling violent gangs nationwide, the FBI seeks to aggressively restore safety in communities across the country.

United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced that Jose Gerardo Ruiz Alonso, 36, of Mexico, was charged in a criminal complaint in federal court in the District of Nebraska for being an alien unlawfully in the United States in possession of firearms. On July 22, 2026, Ruiz Alonso appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Michael D. Nelson and was detained pending trial.
Per the criminal complaint, on July 21, 2026, the FBI executed search warrants on Ruiz Alonso’s Omaha residence and business. As a result of the search warrants, law enforcement seized approximately 71 firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition from the business. Law enforcement seized two additional firearms and ammunition from his residence. Ruiz Alonso is not a United States citizen and was not legally in the United States. The case is being investigated by the FBI, ATF, DEA, ICE, Omaha Police Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Bellevue Police Department, La Vista Police Department, and Council Bluffs, Iowa Police Department.
A criminal complaint merely contains allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
