Alcohol Suspected as Factor in Highway 30 Crash

(GRAND ISLAND, Neb.) — A two-vehicle crash at Highway 30 and 3rd Road on August 1, 2026 left one person seriously injured after a pickup truck allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a Jeep.

Merrick County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to Highway 30 and 3rd Road to investigate a two vehicle injury crash on August 1st.

Preliminary investigation concluded that a 2023 Jeep was traveling westbound on Highway 30 when a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck traveling northbound on 3rd Road, failed to stop at the stop sign at Highway 30 and 3rd Road and collided with the westbound Jeep that was occupied by three passengers.

Driver of the Jeep was transported by ambulance to a Grand Island hospital for serious injuries sustained during the accident and later life flighted to another trauma facility in Omaha, Nebraska.

The other passengers in the Jeep were treated for minor injuries and were later released.

Neither alcohol or drugs are suspected of the driver or occupants of the Jeep.

Seatbelts were in use at the time of the accident.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup Jasper Scheer (40) of Merrick County was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Grand Island for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during the accident.

Alcohol is suspected by the driver of the Chevrolet pickup and is believed to be a contributing factor in this accident. A seatbelt was not utilized by the driver.

Nebraska State Patrol, Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Island Rural Ambulance and Fire all assisted with this accident.
