Welcome to the Cattleman’s Corner. I’m Brian Hale sitting in for the late Howard Hale as we continue his legacy of speaking with cattlemen and women from around the globe.
The Cattleman’s Corner is brought to you nationally by the American Galvee Association. Visit their website at galvee.org. Had a chance to catch up with Wyoming producer Shawn Booth. How’d you get started in the livestock business, Shawn? Oh my goodness.
I got started as a young boy. We’re here in veteran Wyoming. I was born and raised right on the ranch where the sale barn is.
And dad was an avid performance breeder and kept every, all the performance records and would submit them to the American Angus Association. And so this was in the mid-60s. And so, you know, I’m five, six years old.
When I’m nine, I buy my first bred heifer out of Montana, a reto-bred female. And that was my first cow. Then of course, I was of age to be able to show them.
I had a lot of Angus heifers in my 4-H project and it branched basically off of dad’s breeding program. He later became an ABS rep for years. I think he was an American Breeder Service rep for over 40 years.
So we used some of their breeding. So the cow herd has gone up and down. We went heavy into a donor program and flushing these cows, the very top females, and in fact had a dispersal in 2008.
And we sold all the cows. And at that time we had retained over 600 embryos. Learn more about the Booth Cherry Creek Ranch breeding program on our longer Cattleman’s Corner on cattlemanscorner.com. Booth Cherry Creek Ranch has their annual sale in the calendar.
They’re listed on Cattleman’s Corner. Contact me directly and let’s get your program exposed with a free interview on cattlemanscorner.com. Do it right now before something else comes up. That’s going to do it for today’s program.
Thanks again for listening and may God bless. I’m Brian Hale.
