Thank you Siegfried Consulting LLC!

We are constantly striving to make this volunteer service the best possible for our listeners to the live feed. Therefore it brings us great pleasure to announce that we will be getting a new scanner for Scotts Bluff County, which then makes it possible to open up Morrill County with our current unit.

Expect these new improvements to be in place in the next 30-60 days, including the additional feed!

A New Scanner purchase is being made possible by a generous donation from Steve Siegfried of Siegfried Consultants LLC.

Landmark Nebraska Legislation

“Constitutional Carry” LB 77 passes 33-14

From Sponsoring Senator Tom Brewer :

Today marks the end of my seven-year battle for Constitutional Carry in Nebraska.

Thirty-three Nebraska senators voted this morning to end the Final Reading filibuster on LB 77 and to pass the bill. I have spoken with Governor Jim Pillen, and he is eager to sign the bill into law. That will make Nebraska the 27th Constitutional Carry state.

Much blood has been spilled to protect and defend our constitutional rights. Some of it has been mine. I am proud today that our Nebraska Legislature stood up for the rights of all Nebraskans.

I would like to thank the volunteers with the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association, the National Rifle Association, and Gun Owners of America. Without your support this victory would not have been possible.

Most of all, I want to thank everyday Nebraskans who spoke up and made it clear to my colleagues that they wanted us to make the words in the Nebraska and federal constitutions mean something.

“The salvation of the state is watchfulness in the citizen.”

That watchfulness paid off today.

LB 77 passes 33-14 and awaits the Governor’s signature, expected to come immediately and take effect by late summer.

A spokesman for Governor Pillen confirms that he intends to sign the bill into law.

Monument Cleanup Day

Saturday, April 29th

For Immediate Release

(GERING, Nebr.) – National Park Week is a time to explore amazing places, discover stories of history and culture, help out, and find your park. Are you interested in giving back to our national parks? As part of this year’s celebration, Scotts Bluff National Monument will be hosting a volunteer cleanup event in the badlands area of the monument on Saturday, April 29th. The badlands are a seldom visited area of interesting geological formations located on the north side of the monument.

Participants will meet at the monument visitor center, located at 190276 Old Oregon Trail in Gering, at 9 a.m. After filling out some volunteer paperwork, the group will shuttle out to the badlands area where park rangers will provide a brief talk about the area and distribute instructions and supplies for safely cleaning trash from this area of the monument. Snacks will be provided.

Participants must be at least 13 years of age (participants 13 to 17 years of age will need an adult to join them) and should be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and hike up to 2 miles on steep, uneven terrain. Sturdy walking shoes and old clothing that may get dirty are recommended, along with sunscreen, bug spray and drinking water. Because of limited tools and space in the shuttle, registration is required. Register by calling the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor Center at 308-436-9700. In the event of inclement weather or muddy conditions, the event will be rescheduled.

For more information about Scotts Bluff National Monument, please call 308-436-9700, visit http://www.nps.gov/scbl or Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/scottsbluffnps

OPINION SECTION

Controversy in the News

We believe that the media’s job is to get both sides of the story, directly from the source, whenever possible. In my first year or two of writing, I admit I found it easier to grab some info off the internet rather than make that contact directly. It’s hard. Sometimes, we have to contact next of kin in a missing or runaway case, or speak directly with suspects, victims, witnesses, business owners… whatever it takes. If we want to get to the truth, we have to make the tough calls and get all three sides of the story.

There is alot to say, and alot to learn about this particular restaurateur case, but what peaked our interest was the overwhelming support the owner is receiving.

Chad Leeling You’re a good person you put a lot of money into that building And that business… And really it’s nobody’s business what went on.. It would be awesome if you did do a country bar, But if you don’t that’s okay too. Just do what you gotta do!! And your friends (including me) will support you no matter what…

There are a lot of nosey people in this town that gossip and start trouble but let me tell you the good people don’t listen to bullshit and are smart enough to see the real picture. Nobody is perfect we all have our flaws but getting loans and oweing money, getting in to debt is all completely the norm. We’re all there. I’m sure Chad is going to be just fine. I’m sure he’s minding his business, as he should be and everyone else should be minding theirs. Chad’s business is not yo business! Like how I sound gangsta there? Lol I’m sure you will be just fine Chad ignore all the chatter. They really literally have nothing better to do with their lives. 😉

Chad has done a lot of great things for this valley and personal fund raisers for things a business owner shouldn’t take on but he does …we had a tragedy in our family a year ago due to fire ….numerous friends have had worse but Chad will close the business for private fundraising to support people in need..he and friends put on concerts for us all to enjoy but I am sure some ain’t as profitable as expected, bottom line he’s done a lot more community support not just on a business aspect but more personal for good causes and tragedy’s to local families…..way more than other local business….so for that personally thank you Chad …and the effort and work to bring in concerts for us all to enjoy..don’t go down without a fight…and at the end of the day were the news of other restaurants closing or others business in trouble but hanging on by a thread but it’s not posted….unfair shake ….but just my thoughts

As a journalist, you need to be fair and that was very one sided. If one media company does a story about one restaurant closing, then they should do all restaurant closures not just one. Article seemed very one sided did not have you comment on anything.

We feel there’s just alot more to this story than the initial hit piece revealed. We have reached out to Chad and will pursue this story further should he respond.
