Grand Island, Nebraska Fire Dept

We had the pleasure of helping out with the Union Pacific Railroad “Big Boy” Steam Locomotive #up4014! We were like a Nascar pit crew, but much slower and not a racing car.

This steam engine needed a refill of water as it made its way across Nebraska. Here is “Big Boy” by the numbers:

-we laid out 200 feet of 5-inch hose and 200 feet of 2 1/2-inch hose from a fire hydrant to the steam engine refill connection.

-to refill “Big Boy”, it took 1.5 hours.

-it takes 60,000 gallons of water to fill-up, we added nearly 22,000 gallons.

-”Big Boy” weighs 600 tons or 1.2 million pounds.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 12, 2023, at 10 a.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Bishop Adam Harper conducting. Graveside service will follow at West Lawn Cemetery.
