Tragedy hit hard Wednesday as a lightning strike took the lives of both horse and rider. Shannon Loomis wrote, “The community lost an amazing young man yesterday and there are so many aching hearts. Terrel was one of a kind and I never saw him without a smile. It’s all in God’s hands and His reasoning. Sending all the love and prayers to the Vineyard family.”

Not only was human life lost, but also a top performance horse with quality bloodlines.

The Scottsbluff Police Department encourages members of the public to use our Exchange Zone for child custody exchanges, online purchase exchanges, etc.

The Exchange Zone is located in the southeast corner of the Public Safety Building Parking Lot, highlighted in the image.

The Exchange Zone is under 24-hour surveillance, which is recorded. Video of issues occurring in the zone are available upon request for investigations and/or court proceedings with a subpoena.

Robert “Bob” Watson, age 61, passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2023, in his home in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Bob was an amazing architect, designer, engineer, and builder.

An Alliance woman was arrested Wednesday after fleeing from police during a vehicle pursuit that ended with four children inside the vehicle, according to the Police Department in Alliance. Officers were initially called to the Dollar General at 1229 West 3rd Street at approximately 6.30 p.m. on the 9th for a reported disturbance, while officers were investigating, the vehicle involved returned to the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle using emergency lights and verbal commands, but the driver fled. Officers later located the vehicle traveling eastbound on West 3rd Street and attempted another traffic stop. The driver again failed to stop, prompting a pursuit. Reaching 55 miles an hour before pulling into a driveway in the 600 block of Sweetwater Avenue, officers conducted a felony traffic stop and arrested the 24-year-old Lylian Rose Star of Alliance. Four children ages 9, 9, 8, and less than a year were found inside the vehicle. She was booked on suspicion of four counts of felony intentional child abuse with no injury, felony operation of a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, four counts of transporting a child while intoxicated, DUI, resisting arrest, driving while revoked, reckless driving, and unlawful acts related to drugs. Chief Leavitt said this incident could have ended very differently. "Driving impaired is dangerous under any circumstances." All persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
