Oops! That was planned, right?

From a Sheriff’s Dept not in Nebraska : Today, we conducted a “𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 & 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭” 👀 with one of our local gas stations ⛽️! Our official findings: we 𝐃𝐎 𝐍𝐎𝐓 recommend leaving the gas station with the gas pump still attached to your vehicle! 🤦🏻‍♂️🤣

We returned the property back to our local partner as we debriefed them of our findings. 😬

New Zoo Arrivals

We have some new arrivals! Charlie and Baby the Spotted Hyenas!

For now, they are acclimating to their new home off-exhibit and getting to know their keepers. During this time they are starting some training and we are getting to learn their favorite activities and snacks as we get them settled in. So far, they love playing in the hose and making a muddy mess 😆

Listen carefully around the zoo for their moans, whoops, and giggles! Hyenas have one of the richest repertoires of vocal communication of any mammal. All individuals have a unique voice they use to identify each other and coordinate their hunts. Hyenas live in “clans”with females large and in charge. While our clan is small with just two siblings, Baby is still the boss and Charlie waits for his sister to check out new things first.

We can’t wait for you to meet them!

Riverside Discovery Center

The zoo will be closed Tuesday, August 1st to the public while we introduce our Hyenas to their big enclosure for the first time.

This will be a new experience for Charlie and Baby with so much space to run and so many new faces coming to meet them. Staff will be working with them to help ease them into their new lifestyle.

Senior Tuesday will still be held at the zoo with coffee and donuts.

Goshen County Fire Update

Here’s the latest update on the 2 county fires. Our local departments (Torrington, Lingle, Ft. Laramie, Jay’Em, Prairie Center, Yoder, and Veteran worked tirelessly day and night, suppressing these fires until state and federal assistance could arrive. Please consider thanking our local firefighters for their selfless volunteer service.

Raymond M. Townsend, age 104, passed away on July 27, 2023 at Monument Rehabilitation and Care in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
