From Storm Chaser Jeff Anderson
Now, I always love taking first timers storm chasing. It’s a lot of fun sharing this hobby and showing people sights they’ve never seen before sometimes practically in their own back yard.
Usually, you don’t get as good a setup as Kate and I got the other day, but this was something else. I’m confident we got a tornado, we had world class storm structure for the second half of the chase with an absolutely dazzling lightning barrage, we heard the hail roar on some softball sized hail, and got to share an afternoon together that was full to the brim with Southern Great Plains magic.

Sometimes at the end of a trip like that I’ll ask people if they get it now, if they can see why I’m such a maniac about all of this, and after a chase like we had on the 23rd it’s really hard for my passengers not to.
Thanks for sharing a wonderful evening in a place full of magic with me 🙂

Starlink Tracker
Update via Star Walk
Number of Starlink launches over time 🛰️🌎
This video shows how the number of Starlink satellites has grown over time. The first launch took place in 2019. Since then, more than 4,000 satellites have been sent into orbit. This is currently the largest satellite constellation, but it’s unlikely to be the only one.

Note that satellites are actually much smaller. They’re about the size of a small car or a large sofa and weigh somewhere in between. 🚗 The orbits are shown as of April 2023.

👀 You can track Starlink satellites using the Sky Tonight or Satellite Tracker apps. Learn how to see them in the sky here: https://starwalk.space/news/spacex-starlink-satellites-night-sky-visibility-guide

Child Passenger Safety
Scottsbluff Police Department Reminds Parents and Caregivers to Keep Kids Safe Every year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) partners with local communities to hold Child Passenger Safety Week.
NHTSA’s mission is to save lives on our nation’s roads, and it starts with our youngest passengers. Child Passenger Safety Week, which always ends with National Seat Check Saturday, exists to increase awareness for parents and caregivers about the importance of correctly buckling kids in the right seats for their age and size.
We want this awareness to remain year-round.

Scanner Traffic
Despite the encryption by Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Department, Scottsbluff and Gering Police and Fire Departments, the ‘Scanner page’ viewship is actually UP quite a bit. The agencies went encrypted May 21, 2023.
As many have noticed, we have expanded our coverage to include much of WyoBraska (Eastern Wyoming + Western Nebraska) with scanner pages and partners throughout the two states.

If you are interested in helping record scanner traffic for our daily Recaps, email sbcoscanner@gmail.com.
