The above was sent to us. This demonstrates that even eye-witnesses are not perfect. We had later confirmation that the accident was very serious, but the truck was not overturned.

Scanner Expansion

Please welcome our new brand… PANHANDLE SCANNER!

We have been providing expanded coverage for outlying areas for a long time. Even from the beginning, people from all over have followed our page. In fact, less than 1/2 of our followers are from Scotts Bluff County. The rest are found all over Nebraska, Colorado and 37 other states.

The scanner began originally in 2009 and has always stayed focused on 5 primary categories of news and alerts; Police and Crime, Fire and Rescue, Severe Weather, Missing Persons, and Safety Alerts. With our expanded coverage area, we are able to provide local news for the entire panhandle and eastern Wyoming on one page, rather than trying to maintain individual pages for all the smaller counties. We have individual county pages, and we will continue them, but we are seeking volunteer admins from the surrounding areas that are interested in managing their county.

We will write more about the changes in future issues of the recap.

Seeking Black Challenger Driver

Scanner Chatter heated up around 10:20 pm with eye-witness accounts of an accident.

“There’s an accident over by the Westco baseball field. Looks like a black challenger lost control and hit some parked cars at a residence.” – Kenzey

“Just had a drone up in that area.” – Teresa

“About 5 staties over there too. It was a black challenger that slammed into a parked truck on Avenue P.” – Eric

If you know anything about this accident or who it might have been, please contact police.

Thank you to our highly valuable citizen eye-witnesses that report to us! … and thanks for always being safe and yielding to emergency personnel.

As many have noticed, we have expanded our coverage to include much of WyoBraska (Eastern Wyoming + Western Nebraska) with scanner pages and partners throughout the two states.

Public Power Week

To mark Public Power Week, we would like to offer a few tips on how to save energy and money in your home as we build for the future:

* According to the Alliance to Save Energy, the average home uses 70 light bulbs. Even though modern bulbs are energy efficient, you should still turn them off when they aren’t in use.

* Swap out old incandescent bulbs for new LED bulbs. According to the Department of Energy, residential LEDs — especially ENERGY STAR-rated products — use at least 75% less energy, and last up to 25 times longer, than incandescent lighting.

* Heating and cooling your home uses a lot of energy. Setting your thermostat lower in the winter and higher in the summer to save energy and money on your power bill.

* Unplug appliances when you aren’t using them. Even when they aren’t being used, they are sometimes drawing “phantom power,” which wastes energy.

* You home’s water heater is a big energy user. Make sure to use cold water when you can and turn off the hot water while you are scrubbing your hands.

* Consider asking your utility about a home energy audit. Energy efficiency experts can use special equipment to find things around your home – like air leaks – that may be costing you energy and money.

While we are sharing these tips during #Publicpowerweek, we hope our community will keep an eye on our energy efficiency all year round as we work to provide reliable, safe, affordable, and renewable power supply.

These tips were offered by the City of Alliance via their Facebook page, here.
