Time To Winterize
The Panhandle of Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming saw freezing temperatures Friday night into Saturday morning.
Remember, when the freeze is on its way, take care of those plants and pipes!

Star Gazing Opportunities
Draco and Orion raining down shooting stars 🌠
This month, 2 major meteor showers are peaking:
🐲 the Draconids on October 9
🏹 the Orionids on October 22
During their peak, the Draconids will provide up to 10 meteors per hour, while the Orionids will grace us with up to 20 meteors per hour. To spot these meteors, look for them from 45 to 90 degrees away from the radiant of each shower, located in the constellations Draco and Orion respectively. 🤩
To fully enjoy this celestial show, gather your friends, grab a warm blanket, a lawn chair, and a thermos of tea or coffee. ☕🌃 And if you’re really passionate about shooting star hunting, see other smaller meteor showers happening this month. Get the full list and observing details here 👇️

Ring of Fire
Keep your eyes to the sky (with proper protection, of course), as the October 14th eclipse will bring us the infamous ring of fire!

This Day in History
This historical photo and story was posted by Legacy of the Plains Museum.

On this day, over a century ago, one of the first trains rolled into the burgeoning city of Gering. While it is unclear which train was actually the first, this one is certainly among them, and it represents another technology that would completely transform western Nebraska.

Scanner Expansion
Please welcome our new brand… PANHANDLE SCANNER!
We have been providing expanded coverage for outlying areas for a long time. Even from the beginning, people from all over have followed our page. In fact, less than 1/2 of our followers are from Scotts Bluff County. The rest are found all over Nebraska, Colorado and 37 other states.
The scanner began originally in 2009 and has always stayed focused on 5 primary categories of news and alerts; Police and Crime, Fire and Rescue, Severe Weather, Missing Persons, and Safety Alerts.
With our expanded coverage area, we are able to provide local news for the entire panhandle and eastern Wyoming on one page, rather than trying to maintain individual pages for all the smaller counties.
We have individual county pages, and we will continue them, but we are seeking volunteer admins from the surrounding areas that are interested in managing their county.

We will write more about the changes in future issues of the recap.

Seeking Black Challenger Driver
Scanner Chatter heated up around 10:20 pm with eye-witness accounts of an accident.
“There’s an accident over by the Westco baseball field. Looks like a black challenger lost control and hit some parked cars at a residence.” – Kenzey
“Just had a drone up in that area.” – Teresa
“About 5 staties over there too. It was a black challenger that slammed into a parked truck on Avenue P.” – Eric
If you know anything about this accident or who it might have been, please contact police.
