Winter Storm Warnings

More snow and ice is moving into portions of the state today. Here are reports from several different sources to help you navigate your day.

From NWS Cheyenne

Snow is expected across much of the area Thursday into Thursday night.

The heaviest accumulation is expected across parts of the southeast Nebraska Panhandle, where up to 4″ of snow may fall.

Here’s a look at the probability for 1″ or more of snow (left) and 4″ of snow or more (right) through Friday afternoon. This will come in two rounds: the first impacting mainly the southern NE panhandle today, and the second impacting most of the area this afternoon through Friday morning.

6AM 3/7 – Winter Weather Update

A messy winter storm system is moving through the area today and tonight and will bring multiple rounds of snow.

❄️ The first round is moving into the southern Nebraska panhandle this morning, and will produce locally heavy snowfall through the afternoon hours. Expect a very sharp gradient in snowfall from northwest to southeast across Cheyenne county!

❄️ Round 2 begins this afternoon with locally heavy snow showers developing in Wyoming, particularly in Albany and Carbon counties. Be prepared for rapidly changing conditions if travelling this afternoon.

For the rest of the Wyoming counties, this will be more in the form of widespread light snow starting late this morning and continuing through Friday morning.

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected with freezing rain possible. Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches with locally higher amounts and ice accumulations of a light glaze.

* WHERE…Portions of panhandle, southwest and west central Nebraska.

* WHEN…From 6 AM CST /5 AM MST/ this morning to 6 AM CST /5 AM MST/ Friday.

* IMPACTS…Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the morning and evening commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Intense snow rates will lead to rapidly changing conditions and significant visibility reductions.

* INSTRUCTIONS: If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory for portions of the Panhandle, Sandhills, and southwest Nebraska from 6 AM CST Thursday to 6 AM CST Friday. 6 to 12 inches of snow is possible in the Winter Storm Warning area. 1 to 6 inches of snow is possible in the Winter Weather Advisory. Get ready for snow-covered and slick roads especially by midday Thursday. The Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes will likely be heavily impacted.
