(LEXINGTON, Neb.) — Jasmine Hopkins waved her right to a preliminary hearing and is bound over to Dawson County District Court Wednesday morning in the criminal child abuse case against her son Carson Haynes.

Carson passed away a week ago when Jasmine was given the right by the court to make life ending decisions at Nebraska Children’s which included removing life support. Jasmine was granted a furlough from jail to be with the 3-month-old baby while he passed.

Today in court Jasmine’s attorney announced he would be petitioning the district court for another furlough for Jasmine to attend Carson’s funeral in the coming week.

Other action in court Wednesday included a reduction in Jasmine’s bond from 10% of $500,000 to 10% of $250,000. The state objected, arguing the seriousness of the crime for which Jasmine is charged, however recognizing they are sensitive to allowing Jasmine to attend her son’s funeral, but against a reduced bond.

Judge Wightman ruled for the reduction noting the reason for bond is in balance with flight risk, and while the nature of the charges are serious, she did follow the terms of her first furlough and dutifully returned to jail as promised.

Again, any future furlough must come through district court moving forward.

Jasmine’s district court appearance is April 15.
