Scooter Safety

(VALENTINE, Neb.) — The Valentine Police Department put out this safety message, but this could apply to any community without specific scooter laws.

From Valentine Police Department

There has been a real hot topic in Heart City lately… that’s right… scooters! Specifically of the motorized variety. If you missed our visit with KVSH, here is a short summary.

There is currently NOT an ordinance pertaining to motorized scooters, but it is being considered.

This means it is up to parents and guardians to ensure their children are being safe and following general guidelines.

Scooters are not to be operated on sidewalks. They, like bikes, are for the shoulders of the roadway. Stop at stop signs. Be mindful of vehicles and pedestrians alike. Follow the rules of the road.

These are not your grandpa’s scooters. You should probably wear a helmet. Faster speeds mean wildly more dramatic collisions, falls and tumbles.

Wear bright, reflective clothing and avoid operation after dark.

Plain and simple, the manner in which the motorized scooters are being operated currently is not safe, and it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured. Let’s work together to keep Heart City’s kiddos safe.
