US Cycling Championships

(GERING, Neb.) — Motorists need to be aware that there will be roads marked off and extra bicycle traffic on Sunday September 8th.

Planning on visiting Scotts Bluff National Monument on Sunday, September 8th? Please be aware that due to the US Cycling Gravel National Championships, Old Oregon Trail Road will only be open to westbound traffic. This means that visitors can only access the monument through the City of Gering on that day. Street closures in the downtown for The Gravel National Championships

BEGINNING at 7:00 AM on Friday, September 6, City officials will close off streets adjacent to the Gering Civic Plaza including N Street between 10th & 11th and the alleyway between the Plaza and 10th Street (see RED areas indicated on the attached map). 

Also starting at 7:00 AM on Friday; the race start-finish line area on 10th Street will close from N to O Street.  That area will remain closed until Sunday, September 8th at 9:00 PM when all racers are across the finish line and the fencing and the tresses have been disassembled.

Gravel Nationals Phase III  road closures (see BLUE areas indicated on the attached map).  For anyone living along M Street, between 10th Street and the Cemetery Road,
City officials are asking for cooperation in moving all vehicles, campers, motorcycles and trailers off M Street no later than 8:00 PM on Saturday, September 7th. 

This section of M Street will be closed beginning at 3:00 AM on Sunday, September 8th and remain closed until 9:00 PM on Sunday. 

The City requests that citizens refrain from parking anything on M Street until the street is completely open again.  Any vehicle, camper, trailer, etc. parking on M Street when it’s being closed will be moved. 

The City extends its appreciation to all Gering residents for assisting Gravel Nationals Coordinators in making this an outstanding event for everyone!

The City will begin Phase III closures (see BLUE areas on map) at 3:00 AM on Sunday, September 8th. The intersection of 10th and M will be closed including M Street from 10th to 12th Street (in front of the Civic Center). 

Additionally, Kimball Avenue from M Street to South 14th Street will also be closed starting at 3:00 AM on Sunday.  This particular area will open back up after 10:30 AM.  See attached map for details on street closures.

M Street from 10th Street to the Cemetery Road will be closed beginning at 3:00 AM on Sunday, September 8th, and will remain closed until approximately 9:00 PM.  Five Rocks Road will remain open with traffic control in place.
