High School Job Site Fatality

(OMAHA, Neb.) — The DCSO and OFD were dispatched Wednesday to Elkhorn North High School at approximately 10:22 am for a report of an industrial accident.

Deputies and OFD personnel arrived and located a 50 year old male who was working near the football field to the north of the school, who was fatally injured while working at a job site below ground.

Officials indicated that longtime EPS employee Kevin Garrison was working on a geothermal well underground when the incident occurred.

There was never any threat or danger to anyone at Elkhorn North High School or Grandview Middle School.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Well, yesterday must have been our day for hitchhiker alerts. People listening to Panhandle Scanner Traffic may wonder why we put out an alert that there's a hitchhiker on the highway. These are for safety purposes. We're not trying to get anyone in trouble. In fact, hitchhiking is not illegal in Nebraska unless you're standing in the middle of the roadway, or if there's a city ordinance. Hitchhikers are fairly common in Nebraska and Wyoming, and we had three last night. Always remember to use caution out on the roadways at night, especially looking for wildlife, livestock, and hitchhikers. The Sunday Scanner News is out. It's our weekly printable production.
