ATV Usage on Public Roads

(KEARNEY, Neb.) — The Kearney Police Department put out a bit of good information on the use of all-terrain vehicles in Nebraska.

🚨 ATVs on Public Roadways in Nebraska 🚨
Unless otherwise permitted by local municipal ordinance, Nebraska law (NRS 60-6,356) allows the use of ATVs on public roads for agricultural purposes only. Here’s a quick rundown of the guidelines to keep you safe and legal:

✅ Permitted Usage:
• Must be for agricultural purposes. Recreational use is NOT allowed.
• Maximum speed limit of 35 miles per hour.
• ATV use is prohibited on state highways, and is only permitted to cross at a 90-degree angle.

✅ Required Equipment:
• A valid operator’s license
• Liability insurance
• Headlights
• Taillights
• A working brake system
• A bright, day-glow-colored safety flag (at least 5 feet above the ground)

✅ Hours of Operation:
• Daylight hours only (sunrise to sunset)
