(OVERTON, Neb.) — Another good news story from the Nebraska State Patrol; this one from I-80 near Overton.
From Sarah Hampton
Shoutout to this guy – Nebraska State Patrol Trooper T. Sanko. It’s been a rough evening. I got pulled over leaving town for speeding. The Trooper that pulled me over for that was lovely, however my license and plates were expired (off to a great start). I got a warning for the speeding and plates but ticket for the license. Overall not great of course but could’ve been worse.

Fast forward about an hour and we are on our way to Kearney when all of a sudden I noticed my tire pressure was low and just quickly getting lower. I pulled over on the interstate and obviously saw I had a flat tire. Blake’s out of town and I know no one in this area near Overton. My mom is with me so we try State Farm roadside assistance but State Farm left us as pending and said they were searching for help which they never found (shocking..).
At this point Jackson has peed outside by the interstate, North Platte doesn’t have a tire in stock so no one can bring me one from there, and I’m now calling friends to see if they know anyone in the area (bless you both Grace Grant and Kyle Banzhaf).
Then after we are stranded for what felt like four hours but was probably only one hour, this guy shows up. His shift was probably over or close, and yet he stopped to help. We couldn’t reach anyone at Lexington or Kearney Walmarts to check for a tire and it’s late so tire shops are closed. Finally we decided to unload my car that was filled from floor to ceiling with stuff that we were bringing to move. He changed my tire and inspected all my other tires (apparently I have another one that’s “about to blow”).
After putting on the donut he followed us to the truck stop to see if they had air but they didn’t. He saw a guy leaving a closed tire shop across the street and managed to get them to let us use the air to fill the donut. He continued to stay and even helped the guy put air in my tire, and ensured all my other tires were full. He then followed us for several miles on the highway to make sure we were good and weren’t going to have any issues.
Say what you want about cops but this one made my horrible night, a little less horrible by being a kind person and helping all night.
