Car Fire Near Mall

UPDATE: Scottsbluff Fire Department posted an update on their Facebook page.

At approximately 11:40 AM, the Scottsbluff Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle on fire at the Uptown Mall. Scottsbluff Fire responded and arrived on scene within five minutes and were able to get the fire contained and put out within minutes of being on scene. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the vehicle, which was a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, had recently been purchased. Unknown to the owner, the vehicle had three outstanding recall notices on it, with the most recent issued in September of 2023. That recall notice advised there was an issue with the ABS Module causing brake fluid to leak internally and overtime cause an electrical short increasing the risk of an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.

At this point it’s undetermined if that issue was the cause of the fire, however, we would like to advise the public that if you are uncertain if your vehicle has any recalls you may look it up at www.nhtsa.gov/recalls, and if there are any outstanding recalls to get those issues resolved as soon as possible by an authorized dealer, as in not doing so could result in injury or property loss.

(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) – Earlier today, eye witnesses reported a car fire in the parking lot near Monument Mall / Uptown Scottsbluff. Followers in the mall advised that the owner of the car was inside and didn’t know what caused the fire.
