Sheridan County High Speed Chase

(RUSHVILLE, Neb.) — If you caught the high-speed chase on New Year’s Eve, here is the first-hand account from Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office – Nebraska.

Last night, around 6:30pm, deputies were advised of a pursuit entering Sheridan County from South Dakota. The occupants were reported to have firearms and narcotics.

Deputies caught up to and continued the pursuit down multiple county roads, attempting to “spike” the vehicle and end the pursuit safely. The driver continued to elude law enforcement, with the pursuit eventually ending up on Highway 20 outside of Rushville.

The pursuit continued through Hay Springs and into Box Butte County, where the vehicle ultimately was stopped.

One male driver was subsequently taken into custody on multiple felony charges. Two passengers were detained, interviewed, and ultimately released with minor unrelated charges.

We would like to extend a thank you to the Nebraska State Patrol and Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office for helping bring this incident to a safe conclusion.

7:05 pm – Scanner traffic is indicating an active Pursuit coming out of South Dakota on Hwy 87. Man with a firearm, originally a traffic stop and took off. Now headed west on Highway 20, but that could change.

Fluid situation standby for changes and updates.

7:16 pm – He came South on 87 and then turned West on 20 at Rushville, now headed south on 87.

7:20 pm – Speeds up to 65 now around mile marker 43… Still headed south on 87. Vehicle is swerving in and out of the northbound lane. Asking Box Butte for assistance.

At mm 37 now… SD-E551

7:30 pm – Sounds like they tried to spike him and he went off road again. Speeds are now at 50 at mile marker 25.

Mile marker 22, still south on 87 and back up to 70 mph. Mile marker 17, speeds 60 mph.

7:48 pm – Sounds like spikes were successful on the driver side, vehicle is still in the ditch on the north side. Traffic indicated several individuals coming out of the vehicle.

7:51 pm – Update on the individuals getting out of the vehicle. There were two of them that the driver dropped off and then continued driving in the ditch. Law enforcement pursued and were able to get him stopped and the driver is now 10-15.

Vehicles partially blocking the northbound lane and we will need a 10-46 (tow truck) ASAP.
