(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — Crazy dreams do come true. We can attest to that. Especially when we hear stories like this one from Sheryl Harvey about an adventure that she and Mary Skiles began many moons ago.
Before we get to Sheryl’s story7, here’s a little background on why we’re writing about them.
The Tossed & Found antique store in Scottsbluff is our exclusive antique outlet for Panhandle Scanner and the region.
We’re old school, so we get excited about old stuff. There’s nothing like walking through an old antique store and reflecting on memories from the past.
If we do not remember our history, we will be destined to repeat it, said someone much smarter than I… Maybe. 😉 🤔
You owe it to yourself to pay these ladies a visit in their store in downtown Scottsbluff.
After you read this story, we think you’ll definitely be going down there.
Happy Antiquing!
Now, here’s an inspirational story about how these ladies got started!
Happy 9th Anniversary Tossed & Found!!
We started this adventure in January, 2016! Thanks to each and everyone of you for being a part of our adventure!!!
This unique shopping adventure started with hopeful dreaming many, many years ago by two local ladies ~ Sheryl Laessle Harvey and Mary Hill Skiles. Both Sheryl and Mary are natives of Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
Sheryl and Mary have fond memories of growing up in the Scottsbluff Valley, particularly shopping in historic downtown Scottsbluff with their families when they were young children. At that time, downtown was the hub of this county for shopping! They have raised their children here and have enjoyed long-term careers in the community ~ Sheryl as a teacher for Scottsbluff Public Schools and Mary as a Registered Dietitian/Diabetes Educator with Regional West Physician’s Clinic.
These two ladies have always loved shopping at unique venues since they were young college roommates! As the years progressed, they often talked about opening a store after they finished raising their families and retired from their chosen careers! Who knew that it would really happen!!
In 2015, Sheryl contacted Mary and said, “I am ready to retire, are you serious about opening an antique store?” And so it began! They jumped in head first to a whirlwind of activity to finish their careers, to search for the perfect business location for their dream store, to write a business plan and to put everything in place that was necessary to run a successful business!
It is a privilege to be part of Downtown Scottsbluff!❤️
