By Brian Hale, Panhandle Scanner
The primary law enforcement agency heard on Panhandle Scanner’s live feed is the Nebraska State Patrol. Their primary area of patrol is on Nebraska’s U.S. and State highways, as well as the Interstate 80 system. They do assist in local areas at times, but primarily on Nebraska’s highways.
The NSP’s number one point of reference on the highways are the mile marker posts. They do not refer to locations by old business names or ‘a couple miles east of here or there.’
The Nebraska State Patrol uses mile markers when they communicate scanner traffic, so it would be good to know where the mile markers are.
However, with more than 10,000 mile posts marked in Nebraska, it would be difficult to memorize them all. With a little help and a few clues, we can formulate some quick references for you, using the resources below.
