Slow Pursuit Ends in Officer Bitten

(SIDNEY, Neb.) — On Thursday, July 31, 2025, at approximately 04:39 in the early morning hours, an officer of the Sidney Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle with a defective brake light. The vehicle failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued through areas of Sidney. This was a low-speed pursuit lasting approximately 6 minutes, with speeds not exceeding the posted limit, and the officer observed little to no other traffic in the area.

The driver eventually stopped but immediately exited the vehicle and ignored officer’s commands, attempting to leave the scene, the male then actively resisted arrest, physically engaging with the initiating officer. During the apprehension, the officer sustained a bite injury from the driver. A commanding officer arrived on scene to assist in bringing the individual into custody.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and transported to the Cheyenne County Jail. The driver has been booked on charges including:

-Fleeing to Avoid Arrest

-Resisting Arrest

-Obstructing a Peace Officer

-Assault on an Officer

-No Operator’s License
