(YORK, Neb.) – On August 1st, 2025, at approximately 1754hours, deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office were detailed to a residence in Waco, NE on a report of a physical disturbance. The initial caller reported that the suspect had assaulted the victim and fled the scene. Deputies were able to locate the suspect at his residence a short time later.
Investigation into the incident revealed that the suspect and victim in this case were traveling together on Road 14 between York, NE and Waco, NE. As they were traveling, the suspect was verbally berating and threatening to assault the victim physically. The suspect also was driving erratically at more than twenty miles an hour over the speed limit. The suspect eventually dropped the victim off at a residence in Waco, NE where the incident continued to escalate with the suspect attempting to strike the victim with his vehicle.
When deputies made contact with the suspect in this case they observed signs of drug impairment. The suspect participated in a drug influence evaluation conducted by a drug recognition expert which confirmed that the suspect was under the influence of a drug and could not safely operate a motor vehicle. A search of the suspect’s person also uncovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The suspect in this case, Kent Klassen (55) of York, NE was placed under arrest and lodged at York County Corrections. Kent was arrested on the following charges:
- Domestic Assault, 3rd Degree with a prior conviction
- Attempted Domestic Assault, 2nd Degree
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- DUI-Drugs, 1st Offense
- False Reporting
- Willful Reckless Driving
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Speeding
