Juvenile Arrested for DUI; Man Facing Child Abuse Charges

(YORK COUNTY, Neb.) – A Henderson man was arrested yesterday for getting a juvenile drunk and allowing them to drive.

In the early morning hours of August 17, 2025, a deputy with our agency conducted a traffic stop on Road 9 near Road J for a traffic violation.

The driver was identified as a juvenile. Upon contact, deputies observed signs of alcohol impairment and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, and the juvenile ultimately provided a breath sample over the legal limit of 0.08. The juvenile was transported for further testing and evaluation.

The passenger admitted to bringing alcohol to Recharge Lake where both he and the juvenile had been drinking. The passenger, whose driver’s license is currently suspended and revoked due to a prior DUI conviction, knowingly allowed the juvenile to drive after consuming alcohol.

David D. Waegli Jr. of Henderson, NE was arrested and lodged at York County Corrections for the following charges:

  • Child abuse – intentional – no bodily injury (28-707)
  • Contributing to the delinquency of a child (28-709)
  • Procure alcohol to a minor (53-180)
  • Possess open alcohol container (60-6,211.08)

This incident serves as a serious reminder that enabling underage drinking and impaired driving not only puts lives at risk but carries significant legal consequences.

We remain committed to protecting our communities and holding individuals accountable for behavior that endangers public safety.
