Giant Speed Bust

(SIDNEY, Neb.) — Elmer Omar Pasadas Castro, 29, of El Monte, California was arrested by Nebraska State Patrol for possession of over 60 pounds of methamphetamine.

According to information obtained by Panhandle Scanner, authorities in Deuel County recently notified the Nebraska State Patrol about a 2018 Honda CRV regularly making cross-country trips through Nebraska and returning to California. 

On Monday, August 18, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., a Nebraska state trooper spotted the car on I-80.

Probable Cause

As per protocol, a trooper followed the vehicle, confirmed identity, then observed the vehicle unable to maintain lanes, which prompted the traffic stop.

A request for a translator came across the scanner…

Scanner traffic indicated that the Nebraska State Patrol had a Cheyenne County deputy on site. A search of the vehicle turned up “a very large quantity of 3572”, according to the Trooper, “and the male is going to be 10-15.” Trooper then asked dispatch to run a Triple I, which came back negative.
