(GERING, Neb.) — On April 2, 2025 Officer Martinez with the Gering Police Department initiated a traffic stop on an SUV with WY plates and expired tags from 2020. Upon informing the driver, Sean Feagler, that he would be issuing citation for vehicle and license violations, consent was obtained to deploy a K9 around the vehicle to do a narcotic sniff.
Once the citation was issued, all the occupants of the vehicle were ordered to exit the vehicle. Sara Howell was in the front passenger, Julian Gonzalez and Jaedlyn Husted (19) were on the back passenger seats. K9 Rosco eventually alerted on the driver’s side door, giving officers probable cause. While searching the seat where Husted was seated, underneath the blanket she was using was a blue zip style pouch with a piece of foil with burnt up residue inside.
From Officer Martinez’s experience in narcotic enforcement, this burnt foil and residue was consistent with fentanyl usage. Husted then had her fanny pack removed from her person, inside was more foil paper and a “tooter straw”. The straw was tested positive for both meth and fentanyl. Also inside were two orange pills identified as Alprazolam using drugs.com.
Husted was arrested and transported to jail. During a strip search, jailers found two more pieces of foil with burnt fentanyl residue. She was then booked without further incident.
On October 3, 2025, the Judge Dobrovolny sentenced Husted to 18 months probation for attempted possession of methamphetamine, attempted possession of fentanyl and attempted possession of Alprazolam. But before she could serve her probation, the judge ordered her to serve 60 days in jail with 18 days served. He explained that this decision was made in order to disrupt her current life choices giving her a chance to be clean and sober before starting her probation. He was concerned that if she went straight into probation she might not be successful.
While awaiting sentencing, the defendant had previously tried to check herself into treatment only to be unsuccessful. Saying “I can’t stop you, but I can give you options to help you stop”.
She then appeared before Judge Miller, because the defendant had another similar case of attempted possession. Judge Miller ordered the same 18 month probation to run concurrent with that of Judge Dobrovolny’s sentence. Judge Miller asked Husted “What do you want to see in yourself in 5 years”. She replied “better lifestyle and growth”. The judge explained that all that was possible with hard work because no one was going to hand it to her.
She was arrested at the courthouse and transported to jail to serve her jail sentence.
