Driving Complaint Becomes Accident

(MITCHELL, Neb.) — At approximately 11:28 a.m. on October 27th, scanner traffic incidated on Hwy 26 around MM 21 there was a report of a white construction pickup driving on the curve and swerving in and out of oncoming traffic.

Almost immediately after at 11:30, first responders were dispatched to MM 18 of Hwy 26 for an MVA. Here is what we heard from the scene during the incident:

Now it appears that there is an MVA on MM 18 Hwy 26 near Spring Creek road involving multiple vehicles (ended up being only two). Traffic is stating that there is debris all over the roadway and they are calling for additional EMS staffing. Also asking for Mitchell Fire for extrication.

EB Hwy 26 closed and being rerouted on Spring Creek Road. WB traffic will also be redirected until debris is cleared.

Now activating a partial trauma team for one male patient involved in a head on collision with no seatbelt. Working on extrication of the male patient, but could take up to 25 minutes to get him out.

NSP asking for a reconstructionist and 10-46 (tow) for commercial vehicle and a white Dodge Ram pickup with a lot of damage. Commercial vehicle is still upright, but significant damage to the trailer.

Upgraded to Full Trama team. Patient now out of vehicle and on his way to the hospital.

From Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department

Today October 27th at approximately 11:30 a.m. Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a injury accident on Highway 26 near Sunflower Oil Road. When crews arrived it was found that a westbound pickup had rear ended a beet truck that was also in the westbound lane and was turning onto Sunflower Oil Road.

The pickup came to rest in the eastbound lanes so both directions of highway 26 were diverted until the accident was cleaned up. Extrication was required to remove the driver of the pickup.

The City of Scottsbluff Fire Department was mutual aided for extrication assistance. Regional West EMS, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska Game and Parks, and Scotts Bluff County Sheriff Office all responded to this accident as well.

Thank you to all the agencies that assisted with this accident. MVFD responded with five trucks and six personnel.
