(SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.) — On October 29, 2025, many gathered inside the courtroom of Judge Andrea Miller. More than 40 were in attendance to see the fate that awaited Devante Castellaw for the murder of Wyatt Reeb.

Arrested on January 23, 2025 the Defendant, currently 17, has already served 280 days credit.

First to comment was the state. They began by stating that thanks to him pleading Guilty to the murder charge it saved to courts time and money, it also saved the families both Wyatt’s and his from a long and painful trial. But he still placed a lot of faults on many people. The state agreed that to a degree it was his parents fault, parents who never forced him to go to school. Who did care whether he attended or not. It was the school’s fault for not keeping him In school,  not trying harder to keep him inside a classroom during the day instead he would be out In the streets. It was the mental health professional’s fault for not taking his issues seriously and giving him the support he needed. Prior to the attack it was reported that he had 3-4 suicide attempts. They noted his friends were bad peers, As well parents who provided him alcohol.

They noted he was remorseful towards the family of Wyatt and to his own for bringing such sorrow to them but according to a report by Dr. Simms. The Dr noted that after pleading he started to diminish his part in the murder. Beginning to say that he didn’t say him he only hit him. Contrary to what the video clearly showed.

In the evaluation and test giving before sentencing it was noted that he was at high risk for education, employment, drugs and alcohol and Violence. Then continued by saying that Castellaw was doing well in jail. Within a structured environment. At one point even saying “don’t know why I didn’t let the police handle it”.

This attack was motivated by revenge and retaliation for a stolen car. The state ended by saying that the minimum of 20 years was not enough, they would be asking for 40-60 years.

Then his defense council continued by agreeing that from the beginning this child of God was doomed. He never had a chance from his older “friends” who bragged about shooting up Reconnect, parents who never expected him to go to school, even to the Rotherham parents who on that night provided Castellaw and his friends with a bag of “99”(an alcohol brand) and illegal substance to smoke. Negative influences who told him “to go get his ass” instead of him saying no you go get his ass. It was his car that was stolen, it wasn’t his fight. But because of the malignant people in his life he was brought up believing in violence and respect through violence.

His defense begged the Judge to give him Hope. Hope that someday he will be able to return to society a better man. Hope that  someday he will be able to prove to his community that without these malignant influences he was a good person. She ultimately asked for the absolute minimum of 20 years

When giving a chance to comment Devante Castellaw thanked the court for an opportunity to become a better man

Judge miller taking everything into consideration sentenced him to 55 years.
