(PIERRE, SD) — A large selection of top quality Gelbvieh and Balancer Bulls are being offered today by Beastrom Gelbvieh Ranch just outside Pierre.
Speaking of those Gelbvieh genetics, we have Brittney Spencer from the Beastrom Gelbvieh Ranch on the phone. Let’s talk about the history of your program and then that sale you have today.
Well, my parents actually got started with my grandfather with his dad on the 1970s. They primarily ran a commercial cow-calf operation with cross-bred, more Angus-based type cattle. We’re located in Pierre South Dakota, just five miles northeast of Pierre. The sale will be at the ranch on the 23rd and looks like we’re going to have a nice day and we missed all the snow. So thankful for that, I guess, on some levels, but moisture is always welcome.
It should be a good day for you today.
Yeah, we’re really looking forward to seeing everybody here at the ranch later today. We’re excited to go through the cattle, show everyone what we have and try to help our customers find what they need for their programs.
What are the strengths of the Gelbvieh, do you believe?
I think that you get kind of the best of both worlds. You get a cow that is extremely hard-working, extremely versatile as far as environment goes. I think that whether you are trying to stay more on the Purebred Gelbvieh side or the Balancer side from a feedstock perspective, it gives you a really great option to offer your customers. A lot of our customers, they like to toy between different percentages, so they try to keep anywhere in between that 45 to 60%. So with the Balancers, you’re offering anywhere from 25% Gelbvieh to 75% Gelbvieh.
More on that Gelbvieh breed in future episodes, but right now a reminder, find a link directly to Beastrom Ranch and their sale today on CattlementsCorner.com.
