Free Summer Meals: A Guide to Local Programs

With school coming to an end, there are those kids who miss lunch because of a variety of reasons. Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations, such as Public Schools, to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.

For more information about the national Summer Food Service Program, visit https://www.fns.usda.gov/summer/sunmeals.

*Please note: The Nebraska SFSP sites will be available in the Summer Meals Site Finder after NDE approves site locations, which will be on approximately May 26, 2026.

The great thing about these programs is that any child ages 1–18 can access meals through participating summer meal sites, regardless of which school district they attend. It is not dependent on district attendance boundaries, so families are welcome to participate at the location that works best for them.

Some of these programs do require registration, so please make sure you signup.
