Fatal Bicycle Accident in Loup City

(LOUP CITY, Neb.) — On July 5, 2026 at approximately 9:56 am, 911 Dispatch & Region 26 Emergency Management received a call of an injury accident between a pickup and bicycle on Highway 58/92 near the south junction. This location is just outside of Loup City. Loup City-Ashton-Rockville Cooperative Ambulance Squad, Loup City Fire Department and Sherman County Nebraska Sheriff were immediately dispatched to the scene.

On arrival, a bicyclist was located in the south ditch of the highway having been struck by a pickup. The bicyclist was transported by Loup City Rescue and Lifenet to Good Samaritan hospital in Kearney. The bicyclist has been identified as Jan Markham (71) of Loup City. Sadly, Mr. Markham passed away on July 5, 2026. Next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the pickup has been identified as Jacob Kuszak (21) of Loup City, Ne.

This incident is currently under investigation with the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol.
