Welcome to the Cattleman’s Corner. I’m Brian Hale sitting in for the late Howard Hale as we continue his legacy of speaking with cattlemen and women from around the globe. The Cattleman’s Corner is brought to you by the American Gelbvieh Association.
Are you familiar with the Gelbvieh and Balancer Edge? Balancer Cattle offer a simple and powerful way to maintain hybrid vigor and a profitable blend of British and continental genetics without a complicated cross-breeding system. Find the link to the Gelbvieh Association and this interview all on cattlemanscorner.com including longer extended versions. That’s cattlemanscorner.com on the air since 1994.
I had a chance to catch up with Brady Mokey. Can you give us a little background on how you got started in the livestock business? My dad started our operation at the Bondview dispersion. He bought a few cows and took an AI class and just started raising a few bulls for private treaty and then actually when my brother and sister and I got older my grandpa went to the sale barn and bought too many bottle calves so he told us that if we raise those calves for him to take care of them he’ll buy us each registered heifer and that’s kind of how we all got started and going and it’s just kind of built up from there.
You say he bought too many? Yeah, he was supposed to go buy one or two and he’d come home with six I think. Maybe that was part of the plan. Yeah, maybe he had a bigger picture than the rest of us did.
Well look what it did then one thing led to another and here we are. So for those folks who aren’t familiar with where you’re located can you give us some directions? From Corsica it’s nine miles east and three fourths north. From Parkston you go 11 miles west three miles north one mile west and three fourths north.
That was Brady Mokey from Mokey Angus Ranch in Corsica, South Dakota. That’s going to do it for today’s Cattleman’s Corner. Thanks again for listening and may God bless.
I’m Brian Hale.
