Let’s finish up that conversation with our co-host David Woodruff and Sean Thacker. 

“They had a very dry spring here too, and then it started raining towards the very end of May, and they had some really good showers come through. It turned this crop around. There’s some really good winter wheat, and there’s some really poor winter wheat right alongside that didn’t take the frost very well. What are you getting as far as yield on the winter wheat? We’re seeing a low of 30, and we hauled in a quarter section this morning to the elevator, and it made 92, which is absolutely phenomenal. We’re also seeing 13 inches of rain up in this area, though, too.”

Oh, yeah. We were down the first part of May, I believe it was, in Great Falls. It was wonderful. When we got to Conrad, people were talking about the drought. I guess I didn’t have my eyes open the last 30 miles.

“Yeah, kind of a mixed bag. Harvest is rolling, we’re on day six now, really going hard now. The elevators are getting a little bit backed up, lined up. Most of the winter wheat should be wrapped up here within a week, the way the weather’s looking. It’s progressing quickly.”

Where do you haul the canola to? 

“We’re putting it into storage right at the farm here.” 

Okay. Do they have aeration for the canola? It seems like everybody up here that’s got canola has aeration.

“Yeah, it’s all on air. It’s going in pretty hot, so they’re going to have to start cooling it down tonight.”

And your equipment, everything’s working good? 

“Yeah, we’re moving along. Just normal breakdowns, day to day.“
