(YORK, Neb.) — A late-night traffic stop on Interstate 80 in York County took an unexpected turn after a deputy learned there was more to the situation than a series of traffic violations.
On 08/04/2026 at approximately 2356 hours, York County 911 received a report of a reckless driver on Interstate 80. A deputy with our office observed this vehicle to be traveling close to the minimum speed limit and observed multiple traffic violations.
The deputy then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During initial contact with the driver, she stated that there were drugs located in her vehicle.
A subsequent search was conducted and deputies located a syringe full of methamphetamine as well as other drug paraphernalia.

The driver, Kendra J. Phillips of Traverse City, Michigan, was arrested and lodged at York County Corrections for the following charges:
- Possession of a controlled substance (28-416)
- No proof of insurance (60-3,167)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia (28-416)
Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
