Welcome to the Cattleman’s Corner.
I’m Brian Hale, sitting in for the late Howard Hale as we continue his legacy of speaking with cattlemen and women from around the globe. On today’s program, we have Miles Hatter. Tell us where you’re from and who you’re with, Miles.
Advanced Angus and Camas Prairie Angus Ranch. We’re located, the base for Camas Prairie Angus Ranch is Lewiston, Idaho. I live in Grangeville, Idaho.
Are you having a sale in conjunction with them? Yeah, actually, I manage Camas Prairie Angus Ranch and my wife and I own Advanced Angus. Okay. Yep, Camas Prairie Angus Ranch.
Okay, so I guess you’re gonna have to tell me now what the Camas Prairie is. So Camas Prairie is actually a prairie where that Indian settled a long time ago and it actually grows a little flower called a Camas flower and the bulb of it is actually an edible bulb that the Indians would dig up, dry out, and use for protein. Do the cattle eat it? Actually, it’ll abort calves.
It’s kind of toxic if they just eat the flower at the stem. Good information. So tell me how you got started in the business, Miles.
I’ve been a rancher all my life. Kind of went away, worked in the oil fields for a while, came back, started an outfitting operation and wanted to get into a business that I could grow my family around. So started a family, started Angus Operation.
We’ve always been great friends with Camas Prairie Angus Ranch and they saw that I was doing my own little thing and we’ve always been friends and joined forces and going together doing that thing. Miles Hatter on today’s Cattleman’s Corner. Cattleman’s Corner is brought to you by the American Galvee Association.
Have you heard about the Gelbvieh and Balancer Edge? Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle are well known throughout the beef industry for their maternal strengths and superior growth. With attributes such as more pounds of calf weaned, added fertility, greater cow herd longevity and heavier carcass weights, just to name a few, Gelbvieh and Balancer offer genetics that work for the commercial cattle business. For more information about the Gelbvieh and Balancer Edge, visit Gelbvieh.org. Thanks again for listening and may God bless.
